if there was one ruler in england you didn’t want to tango with, it was queen mary. a tortured soul, she was witness to her father’s (henry viii) many indiscretions and betrayals to her mother, catholic queen catherine. true to her mother, she never faltered in her faith to catholicism and the vatican. when she assumed the throne after the death of her younger brother and the ousting of queen jane, her rule brought catholicism back to england. however, as is custom in religious reformation, many suffered. this suffering earned her the name bloody mary. she was certainly a conservative yet powerful monarch, and dressed the part.
